Setting goals is a critical step in improving your sense of direction and purpose in life. Depression closes in on you quite easily once you abandon a concrete schedule and a furious pursuit of goals. Choose something important to you and strive for it from the moment you wake up in the morning. This can improve your holistic health and contribute to a happier mindset.
You should surround yourself with people who share the same values as you. Surrounding yourself with negative people can have a poor influence on your mood and can rub off on your way of thinking.
A great self help tip is to write down everything you like about yourself. Sometimes depressed people develop such a powerful, negative view of themselves because they can only see what they don't like. Writing down a list of what you like about yourself can help you see yourself in a different, more positive light.
If you have been feeling depressed and cannot seem to motivate yourself, just stop for a minute and think of all the positive things in your life. For instance, you may enjoy your job or you have a great pet. Once you focus on the positive areas of your life, you will start to feel better and be thankful for the many blessings you have.
Take personal responsibility. No matter what has gone wrong in your life, take responsibility for your situation. Doing this takes you out of the victim role and lets you take charge of your life again. Nobody is holding you back except for yourself, so take your new found freedom and start making changes.
Volunteer for that job no one else wants to do. Volunteering can open up your relationships with others. It can help you acquire knowledge and skills that might one day prove invaluable. Just because your co-workers don't want to take on a job doesn't mean you should automatically rule it out!
A good self help tip to improve relationships is to call, email, or text an old friend you have lost touch with. Starting a new relationship can be difficult, but rekindling an old one can be a great alternative. Since You already know the friend, you will have lots to talk about.
There are many courses available that profess to be about personal development. Make sure that you read some reviews of these courses and especially, the leaders. Unfortunately, many of today's professionals are nothing more than unqualified self-help gurus, which in the best of circumstances, are simply spouting off nonsense.
Take the time each day to read. By reading, you are giving yourself the opportunity to envision other people's mistakes and challenges and how they handled them. This will speed up your own process of personal growth by giving you insights into best practices and worst case scenarios. A good goal to begin with is to read one book every month and mark fifteen minutes every day for other types of reading, like blogs or newspapers.
Make sure that you are getting enough sleep at night. This is extremely important because your body and mind both need time to recover and repair themselves. If you are not sleeping enough, then your body will not be able to recover for the next day and this may complicate some of your emotional issues.
Take the time to cook a good meal. If you are loading you body with quick bites to eat from the fast food restaurant or convenience store, you are surely not getting the nutrients that your body needs to perform to its potential and this can leave you feeling stressed and angry.
Keep yourself around positive people. Being around people that are positive can be contagious and will change you way of thinking. It is a bad idea for someone that is depressed to be around those who think negative. It can worsen their depression and cause more negative thinking, which is exactly what you don't want to do.
Find the best part of you and build on your character from there. Once you take the time to step back and learn the things that you like about yourself, you will be able to build on those things and become the great person that you wish you could be.
Finding a job that you love will give you great motivation in life. If you have a good income at your current job, and you are not happy with it, look for a job that you will love. Being stuck at a job you hate will bring out negative feelings and thoughts.
When aiming to develop yourself in the best way, you must acknowledge that you do not possess all the knowledge that one can have. You are not God. You still have a lot to learn in this life. Acknowledging this fact will give you peace of mind and allow you to learn new, exciting things.
With regards to personal development in the professional field, make sure that you always provide any helpful ideas that you may think of. This is important because you may have an idea that nobody has come up with before and you may end up being a hero by providing a new perspective.
Do not get into a ‘comfort zone' and get used to having problems. Do what you can to solve them and get rid of them. It will make you happier and help you change the way you live and think in the moment. When you problems arise it will help you get rid of them as well.
As stated before, people all around the world suffer from problems, whether they are financial or addiction based. - Earn 40% in your first Campaign, compliments of Avon.

Reality Check: It's important to set goals that are within your current lifestyle. Just like deciding to loose 50 pounds in 1 month is unrealistic, earning and scaling your business will take TIME and depends on how much TIME you have to work on it. I work a full time job 45+ hours per week. I'm a single Mom to a handicapped adult son. I'm also over 50. If I can do it, so can you. Don't compare your “day 1” to my “day 2000”. Too often we compare ourselves to others. That's the worst you can do. So DON'T! What you should do it dedicate 30-60 minutes daily to YOU. Spend that time on YOU. I use it for my Avon business because I have fun and enjoy it. I get up an hour early every day when the house is quiet – purposefully. YOUR success is the habits YOU form daily that add up. I am committed to building my business and helping as many people as I can do the same.
Finding YOUR why
If you didn't do the short exercise above, take some time to put more thought into it. I was asked this in the beginning and had no clue what direction I was in. Question: What do you hope for in life? My first answer: What kind of question is that?
I signed up to sell Avon because (your answer here) I was in beauty school and wanted to buy a makeup kit. I bought everything I needed at a 40% discount and helped the other students do the same. I did not sign up to earn money. That came later. I also used my discount to create a facial kit for my salon clients. YES, I was working full time, going to school full time, and signing up to sell Avon. My original WHY was to buy products at a discount – we call that a personal shopper. I like the clothes too!
YOUR why determines what you want from YOUR Avon business and what YOU want to get out of it – YOUR ultimate goal. And, just like life changes as time goes on, so does your why. That's okay. It should as you learn and grow. Most people sign up to sell Avon to earn money. Let's break that down.
I'm going to teach you how to narrow that WHY down and funnel your efforts into a road map. What I have done professionally for the past 30 years is develop action plans from problems that come up during manufacturing. This process works for anyone or anything. It starts with a clear definition of the problem. You are here because you have a problem. That it the root of your WHY. In my industry, we call this the 5 Why's.
Problem (WHY): I want to earn money.
Clearly define the problem (WHY). Take a piece of paper and write this down. Plan this like it's your next vacation! Some examples of the problems that bring people here are:
- Not enough money to pay all the monthly bills
- Not enough money left over after the bills are paid
- Not enough money to go on vacation
- Not enough money for extras
5 Why's – Not enough money
- I can't pay the entire rent and am always short.
- I can't put money aside for the rent because I spent everything from my last check.
- My paycheck is $300 less than the rent.
- My job is not always full time and only pays minimum wage.
- I can't work another full-time job. I have a family to care for. I don't qualify for a higher wage that would make up the difference.
Can you see how you have to dig deep and be honest with yourself? This is not something you have to share with anyone. I've been there. The cost to support a family never gets cheaper. Does it?
Success leaves clues. Your solution is in your 5 Why's. In the example above the WHY is specifically to earn $300+ monthly. This solution is YOUR GOAL. It's what you want to get out of your Avon business.
Now I bet you're saying, that's it? Why would I do all of this for $300 a month? We answered that above in our notes. Think of how your life would be if not only could you earn enough to make up the $300, but you kept going and earn enough to pay the rent with your Avon earnings. Everyone starts at the beginning. This is a realistic goal. As you grow so should your goals.
There are many factors that determine your goal. This is just an example. Maybe you don't work and need to earn more money. Maybe you don't have a family to care for and you have more time to work. Tailor this to YOU.
As long as your orders meet the minimum order total in the KickStart Program for your first 7 campaigns, you earn 40% commision. If you turn in a $150 total order your first campaign, you earn $60. To do the math on your orders, take the total and multiply it by .40 to get your actual earnings.
Most common mistakes
- Representatives take an order from a customer and don't collect the money. When the order is placed, Avon requires a payment and the representative can't pay for it.
- Tell your customers that you have to pay for the order when you submit it. Tell them when you are placing the order. They have until then to pay you. They can also shop online at your estore.
- Representatives forget to charge the customer taxes.
- Look at the last thing you bought and that is the state taxes due. If you are not sure – Google.
- Representatives have to buy brochures and pay for shipping.
- It's okay to charge your customers a process & handling fee to cover the expense. Just be honest and upfront with them. The average charge is $1 per customer. Tell them what this is for.
- Representatives don't actually earn anything because the cost to do business is overlooked.
- Keep your costs low and don't fall into the trap of ordering for yourself unless you can afford to pay for it.
- The money you collect is for the order, not a loan until you get paid. If you spend that money and can't fill the order, you have just committed a crime. If you collected taxes for that order (and you should have) you have committed a felony.
- Representatives that successfully make money treat this opportunity like a job with a real business.
- Don't feel bad about the money you don't make from the work you don't do.
- “Speak” to yourself like you are giving employee tasks to do to make money.
